Jet Slides
I would probably mark jet slides as one of my favorite types of guitar slides, over porcelain guitar slides even, but I've never had the opportunity to try one out. In fact, I just recently discovered what it is all about. What I've seen so far has been pretty amazing. These guitar slides are not your typical bottleneck guitar slides. I'll let you see for yourself. Here is a video demonstration of jet slides in action:
You have to say it is a cool invention. I'm sure it would take at least some getting use to, but overall that seems to be the best solution for playing regular guitar with a slide on ones finger. Players, through the years, have typically either played the entire song with a slide, added and removed the slide mid-song, or limited their regular playing to less fingers. This has also been overcome by some players by using the slide on their pinky, since many self-taught players don't use their pinky much if at all.
Jet slides look like they would be a great accessory to add to my musical equipment. There are glass sleeves for jet slides as well, for all you glass lovers. Unfortunately for me, there are no porcelain sleeves that I can find. Jet slides look small, so I'm not sure how much they weigh. That's an important aspect of slide, in my book. From just looking at jet slides, it's hard to tell how easy they would be to play with. I'm going to buy one and try it out soon. I'll post more after that. Hopefully I won't be disappointed. I really like the functional aspect of the slide.
Basically, jet slides are a new approach to slide guitar playing. The slide itself doesn't go around the finger. Only part of the slide goes around the finger, and it's just enough to hold it in place. The rest stays in place by a special bend in the bar of the slide. You can see it in action in the video. I believe the most difficult part about getting used to the jet slide would be reaching for the slide. It seems that it would be hard to find with the fingers at first. I may be completely wrong, however.
