Chrome Guitar Slides

Let me first give the disclaimer that I'm not a fan of metal guitar slides in general. Also, I should say that my least favorite guitar slides are chrome or chrome-plated guitar slides. I almost hate them. Nevertheless, I've still tried to find the best deals on these guitar slides and I didn't really want to leave them out of the mix.

Some people actually prefer chrome guitar slides. Chrome guitar slides usually offer the slickest slide surface. They are pretty good slides as long as you get the kind that have the chrome on the inside as well as the outside. I've found that chrome guitar slides without the chrome on the inside can and will rust. I've had chrome plated guitar slides rust so badly on the inside that I thought I may need a tetanus shot after playing a little blues.

As with the brass and other metal guitar slides, chrome guitar slides offer a lot of weight. This is helpful when playing slide. A good balance is necessary. If the slide is too light, it's more difficult to play with. If it's too heavy, it will cause a lot of noise on electric guitars. The right weight depends on many factors, such as your playing style and the type of guitar you will be playing slide on.

It's really not rocket science, however. The only way to really judge which slide is best for you is to try them all out. I may prefer porcelain, but I'm actually in a minority. Most people do not like porcelain guitar slides. So, even though I do not like chrome guitar slides, that doesn't necessarily mean that you won't like them. Give them a try and see what you think.
