Guitar Slides

Guitar slides have been around since the early 1900s. Some of the first guitar slides were necks from glass bottles. This is why the term "bottleneck guitar" was developed to describe slide guitar. Many types of guitar slides have been developed since those first bottleneck slides. Everything from batteries to lighters have been used as make-shift slides. Many guitarist still prefer the glass bottleneck style slides.

My personal favorite type of slide is the porcelain slide. They lend a bright clear tone to slide playing. I prefer the slide playing to sound cleaner. Others prefer the gritty sound of a brass or metal guitar slides. It's all about personal preference. Here is a video of a very good amateur slide player using a porcelain slide. I'll let you judge how well it sounds.
